For your consideration, here is a Mr. Smith's Fishing Pole Tender Holder with box, made in Salem, Oregon. All steel construction. Not much wear on it. The sand spike part there. The boat bracket part is missing.

It is made to set the hook automatically, with a three position spring mechanism. The box has a lot of wear, is taped up and some puncture holes in it.
