This genuine 1920’s large antique woven Jacquard Tapestry depicting an Arabian Oasis scene is estimated to be at least 93 years old. This particular scene was very popular during this era as wealthy people from America would vacation in Egypt or go looking for old relics from the Egyptian past. The colors are subtle tans, gold, salmon, black & brown. I believe this to be woven silk & wool threads as was common during that period with the threading tightly knitted together making this a solid textile. According to the original owner it was “Made in France”.
THE DETAILS: Considering its age, it is in Very Good Condition with one minor exception of what looks like some possible dirt or aging spots on the left-hand side of this tapestry or it could be just the way it was designed on the fabric, not sure which. However, it does not detract from its value, but further enhances the character of this antique textile. There are no holes, or loss in the fabric. You also get the brass café rings that are attached which can be removed if desired, or use them to mount on a rod for your wall. It measures 48” tall by 48” inches wide. No Maker’s Mark. It looks like it has never been cleaned and could use a good professional cleaning. The larger Arabian designed antique textile pieces are getting harder and harder to come by.
FINE PRINT: As with most antique and vintage items I normally do not clean, polish or in any way change the content of this item due to possibly affecting its original prominence and value. I leave that decision up to the new owner and selling this item “As Is – As Found”.
And… as with ANY vintage item they have been previously owned, there may be signs of normal wear. Look at pictures carefully to determine item condition for yourself before you bid or purchase. Colors appear different on many computer monitors & this has been filmed in bright sun light, therefore color interpretation may be different than they appear on screen.
