Antique Cabinet Card Photograph in folder. Identified by accompanying high school graduation name card as Maurice A. Sylvester. His obituary indicates he graduated from Solon High School in Solon, Maine, circa 1941. Photo by Waddington Photography which had studios in Houlton and Waterville, Maine. Measures approximately 5.5 x 8 including mount. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It is in very good condition. Comments: His obituary appeared in the Portland Press Herald in April, 2012: Maurice A. Sylvester passed away at the age of 88 at his home in Gorham where he had lived for the past 5 years. Born on Nov. 2, 1923 in Durham, he was one of four children born to Julian and Altie (Sewall) Sylvester. His parents and his oldest brother (Julian, Jr) predeceased him in death. He graduated from Solon High School after which he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He saw action at the Remagen Bridge and other places in Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his discharge, he returned to Maine to marry his high school sweetheart and earn his Aeronautical Engineering Degree from the University of Maine. He spent the next 25 years working for the US Government in Virginia and Maryland. In 1975 he and his wife moved back to Maine and spent 30 years working on their farm and turning a 100-year-old building into a lovely modern home.
