LITTLE JOURNEYS: ENGLISH AUTHORS
by Elbert Hubbard
Wise & Co. (The Roycrofters), 1922
Memorial Edition
Condition: Near Fine

The 5th in a series, this is a collection of 12 biographies of eminent English writers accompanied by an illustration of each; these were originally published individually between 1902 and 1904. Hubbard founded the Roycrofters, who produced this this beautiful book with leather bindings, gilt lettering and top edges and breathtaking front cover design at their shops in New York. They strongly influenced the development of American architecture and design a century ago. This Memorial Edition was originally published following the drowning death of Hubbard aboard the Lusitania. The brown silk ribbon place-marker is still intact in the book. Many pages are still uncut along the fore-edge, indicating this copy is unread. Slightly bent corners, with minor coner wear; otherwise, this is a fabulous example of a Roycrofters book that looks almost as if it just came off the presses! (The scans don't do it justice!)  No dust jacket, as issued
