"Enameled Glass Snuff Bottle, China - with Case"
This beautiful piece I have had for 50 years. I have no information on the age of the piece. When I was a little boy, I admired it sitting in my grandmother's large curio. One of the objects she had bought during her tours early in the 20th Century. When a young teenager, she gave it to me. Telling me to take good care of it. I have so many other things from my grandmother that as I continue to downsize now, this is one item that now needs a good home.
The glass bottle is 2" wide at the widest point and 3" tall. The enamel colors are striking though very slightly faded with time, - rose, turquoise, ochre, navy blue and green. Raised gold enamel shows the movement of a group, including the animals, travel by horse and cart, and war. On each side is an animal holding a ring. I am unsure if that might be an elephant or a lion due to the art style. The top lid is set with a round pink stone, possibly rose quartz. The lid still has its cork and spook and fits well. Otherwise, there are no dents, cracks, or chips.
The bottle has always been in the pink silk case which is 3 1/2" x 5" x 2". The inside lined in white silk.
