Three Legs
This hand crafted pewter brooch has a Celtic triple spiral design that is called a Triscele or Triskele. It is a substantial brooch and will make an excellent Kilt Pin that will secure to the garment with a rollover safety clasp. It has an antiqued background that makes the silver pewter really stand out. The symbol is in the center of an intricate Celtic knot border. It measures 3 inches in diameter and weighs 2.10 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 59.53 grams. I have been unable to find any information about the artist or the hallmark on the back.
The symbol is often found in the Celtic art of Ireland and Scotland. It is thought to represent the three realms of Celtic lore: the past, the present and the future. It is also known to represent the three Celtic worlds, the Otherworld; the Mortal World and the Celestial World. The triskelion if found in many early cultures and is also a traditional symbol of Sicily, where it is called Trinacria, and of the Isle of Man.It was also found on warriors’ shields on Greek pottery. The name of the symbol is derived from the Greek word “Triskeles” meaning “three legs”.
It is in excellent pre-owned condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It has a secure holding roll over style pin back. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.
This would make a unique addition to your collection of Celtic jewelry or Kilt pins. It would also be a great accent pinned to a Tartan, a black purse or handbag. Make anything ordinary into something extraordinary.
