This is a handmade oval clay and enamel brooch by Liza Bach, who is a professional studio potter and jeweler living in the mountains of Tennessee.  The brooch measures approximately 2 inches wide and 1 ΒΌ inches tall. It has a gold tone or brass clasp pin back.  The textural patterns in her clay are created using lace doilies into wet clay and then removing before shaping the pottery and firing.

According to her website, she began creating pottery in 1985 and lives in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. She is known for her series of hand carved clay tiles with relief prints of natural items that were placed on a nature trail for the physically challenged in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and at the National Grove of State Trees in the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. in 1999. The Grove of State Trees is a display of the state trees of all the United States. The arbor leads to a large plaza with a flagstone star and a wall adorned with pottery tiles designed and fabricated by Liza. Each tile is individually cast with the name of each state and a raised image of the foliage of the state tree. You can see more of her pottery work at behance.net/liza-bach-studios. Her work is found in many art galleries, such as the Foxhill Gallery in Tennessee.

It is in great vintage condition as you can see from the many enlarged photographs. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would make an excellent gift for any collector of handcrafted pottery. It is a one of a kind pin that is sure to be a conversation starter.
