This bracelet comes from a suite of jewelry that was a gift to Jackie from JFK on the morning of December 24, 1953, for their first Christmas together after they were married. The suite was a necklace, a bracelet, and earrings (now lost) made by Tiffany’s.
Both John and Jackie came from large families, so they started a tradition of their own where they would exchange their gifts privately the day before a major occasion. John always gave Jackie jewelry and usually one other gift, such as a piece of art. Jackie rarely bought anything for him, she usually spent months making him a gift by hand instead, usually a scrapbook reflecting their life together.
This is called the “Signature” set because museum curators asked Caroline to select jewelry most representative of her mother when they were assembling an exhibit of Jackie’s clothes that was making a tour of the world’s museums. Caroline chose this set as the one that best reflects her mother’s taste, her elegance, her sophistication, and her timeless style.
