Adenium Obesum or (Desert Rose) A Rose by any other name……

Desert Roses, or Adeniums which they are better known as are in fact not roses at all and are not even remotely related to the common Rose.

The Desert rose is a hardy plant and is more often found as a small shrub or even a bonsai house plant. In can grow up to nine feet tall and five feet wide outdoors but

is rarely found that size!

The Adenium produces beautiful flowers that are tubular in shape and these come in various shades and tinges of red, white, pink, black and even dark violet.

It also produces follicle-like fruit containing seeds when pollinated. If grown indoors, the plants typically bloom in the summer, but outdoors they can bloom all year round in warm weather.

This heat tolerant plant grows best in well drained, sandy or gravelly soil and direct sunlight.

Germinating

***************

This method of germinating the seeds works well for me and for other buyers.

I suggest that you plant one seed at a time until you are happy germinating adenium seeds.

Soak the seed for 2 - 4 hours between two layers of damp paper towels.

Fill a small pot with well draining cactus mix. Soak soil and allow it to drain fully.

The Adenium seeds are inserted horizontally no deeper than ¼ inch into soil and covered lightly.

Place the pot in direct morning sunlight or under a grow light, Keep a temperature of 80 - 85 (27 - 29°C)

Do not allow the soil to completely dry out, but you must be careful not to make the soil soggy or standing in water.

During germination, spray mist the seeds 2-3 times a day with water in a plastic spray bottle. This provides sufficient humidity.

Germination occurs between 5 - 28 days.

Transplant the seedling when is has 6 leaves to a larger pot.
