This image is taken from "One Meat Brawl" released in 1947 and directed by Robert McKimson. It is Groundhog Day so, naturally, Porky Pig goes hunting groundhogs and takes his dopey dog, Mandrake. They soon encounter Grover Groundhog, who is none too thrilled to be the objective of a hunter on his big day. Mandrake is good at what he does but Mandrake is also a sucker for a sob story and Grover outwits him at every turn. Edition Size 500. Robert McKimson While the name Robert McKimson is not well-known outside animation circles, his work is familiar to us all. Robert McKimson's animation career began in 1928 at The Walt Disney Studios, which then employed only about 30 people. He found the legendary Mickey Mouse on the drawing board before him on his very first assignment as an assistant animator. In 1931, he left for Warner Bros. Studio, where he stayed on until 1963 as an animator and cartoon Director. Robert McKimson became a Director during the mid-40s with his first picture, “Daffy Doodles,” being released in 1946. In all, he animated and directed 175 cartoons for Warner Bros., while creating and introducing five major cartoon characters: Foghorn Leghorn, Hippety Hopper, Sylvester Jr, the original Speedy Gonzales, and, of course, the Tasmanian Devil.
