Heather Martinez of Designs in Clay creates original designs utilizing an ancient glass making technique known as milefiori (thousand flowers). She  uses this technique to create translucent canes, which are then applied to glass to achieve a luminous effect.  The caning technique consists of forming a long roll by stacking individual rolls, triangles, etc. until she achieves a design that runs the full length of the cylinder. This can be sliced and applied to flat or curved surfaces as a design element. 

Each piece is finished by hand sanding and applying a Varathane sealer thus assuring  a quality piece of handmade artwork.

That is how this beautiful dragonfly bud vase was created ... it is truly a one-of-a-kind piece and is the only one we have left!  Furthermore, it is no longer in production by the artist so it is the last of its kind.
