Pre-viewed for quality and everything looks like new. This Special Edition, which is longer, is also the full frame version which is great for older TV sets as it will fill your square screen. It comes in a special hard plastic clamshell keepcase.
Two stories about four women, love, friendship, Southern charm, and eccentricity are untidily held together by wonderful performances. Unhappy, middle-aged Evelyn (Kathy Bates), meets the talkative 83-year-old Ninny Threadgoode (Jessica Tandy). Ninny reminisces about her Depression-era life in the town of Whistle Stop, Alabama and the two women, Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson) and Ruth (Mary-Louise Parker), who ran the local cafe.
Back-and-forth narrative as it tracks multiple storylines is occasionally confusing, though strong character development holds interest. Surprising box office hit adapted by Fannie Flagg from her novel.
