Eilean Donan castle , Scotland. I did a three week cycle tour of Scotland, and the castle is on the east coast on your way to the Isle of Skye. It takes its name from a 6th century Irish saint, Bishop Donan, who established a community that lived on the island [ Eilean Donan = Island of Donan ]. Built in the 13th century to withstand Viking raids, it lasted, with various alterations, until the 1719 Jacobite rising, when it was slighted by the British.
It was rebuilt using original ground plans in the early 20th century and is now one of the most visited places in Scotland.
This pencil study does, I feel, capture the grey ruggedness of the stonework.
I post it to you unframed, in a boarded envelope, wrapped in plastic for extra protection.
