Alexander marched his troops victoriously into Babylon, with its gardens and walls, which according to legend were 300 foot high and wide enough to accommodate two chariots riding abreast, where Alexander died (assassinated--presumably poisoned) in 323 BC. Silver Tetradrachm. 16.76g 27mm. Pella, Macedon mint. Struck 280-275 BC under Antigonos II Gonatas. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress. Reverse: Zeus enthroned left, naked to waist, feet on foot stool, eagle in outstretched right hand, grounded scepter in left; Grape bunch above Price Monogram 1167, consists of ? and ? in left field.
