This is for a wonderful plein air oil on panel landscape by the great Fidelia Taylor. This is the Cross of the Martyrs in the Sangre De Cristo(Blood of Christ) mountains in New Mexico made famous by the Paul Simon song. This is in great condition from the early 1900's. The original frame is excellent and ready to hang. The complex textures colors are reminiscent of Jack Dudley's work though Fidelia Taylor did it first. Her work rarely comes up for sale so this piece is a rare find. Taylor was a contemporary of Charles Rieffel and Charles Fries. WIKI: Fidelia Pine Taylor (1887-1953) was born in South Dakota. In 1911 she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. She continued her art studies at the St. Paul Institute of Art and also did some teaching there. She married Dr. Ross Taylor in 1914. In 1925 they settled in San Diego where she did much of her landscape painting, both in oils and water colors. Many of her paintings remain within the family.
