Item description
NATURAL URANIUM
ROCK ASSORTMENT
2.5 LBS (40 OZ) VARIETY OF
ROCKS FROM JURASSIC CANYON,
18 MILES NW FROM GRANTS NM
This rock collection is sold by WEIGHT, not
by number of rocks. It will be 8-20
rocks, depending on the rocks' weight and size.
Jurassic Canyon is the richest uranium field
in the entire USA, and it is the fourth richest
uranium field in the entire world. The "mother lode"
of uranium here is 3,000 ft deep, 600 ft thick, and
it extends horizontally at depth for six miles, passing
directly beneath the Mount Taylor extinct volcano
and the Jurassic Canyon uranium field.
FIVE VARIETIES OF URANIUM make up
this rock collection, although these varieties
are not equally represented; one or more
might be missing in the 2.5 lb (40 oz)
assortment. The varieties found at Jurassic
Canyon NM are:
/ COFFINITE / CARNOTITE /
/ TYUYAMUNITE / URANINITE / or
/ JURASSIC TODILTO LIMESTONE. /
When you buy a 40 ounce collection, I will enclose
a two-sided descriptive sheet for each rock type,
reprinted from Wikipedia. By studying these five
two-sided sheets, you will be able to identify the
type-identity of each rock in your own 40-ounce
uniquely varied uranium rock collection. These
rocks were mined at a 3,000. ft depth, where
they existed for 150-200 million years,
in the shadow of the Mount Taylor
uranium shield volcano. Many dinosaur
species occupied this region during the
Jurassic era of the ancient world.
The rocks are arranged in two groupings, based
on their cpm (counts-per-minute) radiation level.
The groupings are: LOW-LEVEL (3,000. cpm
to 7,000 cpm) and also MID-LEVEL
(8,000 cpm to 30,000 cpm). Each rock's
cpm radiation level is stated clearly on the
gummed sticker attached to the metal foil
surrounding the rock. The radiation level
for the rock is highly accurate. A Ludlum
Model 2200 geiger-scaler is used to identify
the rock's radiation; this geiger-scaler is the
most accurate geiger instrument available to
"rockhound" hobbiests like me.
Rocks that are ABOVE 30,000. CPM
radiation level will continue to be sold
individually in the ads; they will NOT
be part of the variety groupings.
STORING YOUR ROCK
VARIETY COLLECTION
I recommend that each uranium rock should have
its metal foil removed, and should be stored in
a clear plastic "zip-lock" bag, to which a gummed
label has been attached, stating the rock's cpm
value. Then place the bags of each rock category,
LOW-LEVEL or MID-LEVEL, into one of the two
large metallic bags. This way, you will always
know where the two groups of rocks are being
stored.
LAST TWO PHOTOS: Mount Taylor Mine, near
the canyon, has mined more uranium than any other
USA mine. NOTE THE RATTLESNAKE GUARDS
on my lower legs. Jurassic Canyon's main wildlife:
the ever-present Diamondback Rattlesnakes !
SHIPPING must be only to buyers with a
USA address, because selling uranium rocks
is only allowed to USA buyers, according
to a regulation of the Federal Nuclear
Regulatory Commission.
