Item description
Natural Uranium Rock
CARNOTITE
Weight: 1.2 oz. Radiation: 36,000 CPM (counts-per-minute)
$25.00 plus $9.50 shipping
This rock was found at a rockpile located at
Jurassic Canyon, 18 miles NW from Grants NM
during July 2025. During the mining era there,
1950 until 1989 when all the mines closed,
each mine had one rock pile at which to
deposit its waste rocks. I have gathered my
rocks at about 15 of the 20 piles. I WISH
that the identity of each rock pile were
identified; the most wanted rock pile would be
the one identified with the BARBARA-J MINE;
this is the mine that is reputed to have dug out
the largest number of radioactive dinosaur
fossils at this mining area.
I have written to the producers of the TV
series, DINO HUNTERS, to suggest that they
travel to Grants NM to produce a 60min
episode on radioactive dinosaur fossils, for
their third season on the Discovery Science
series; you can see episodes of this series on
YouTube. This series is captivating and very
popular with viewers; the problem is that they
have NOT yet confirmed a contract for the
third year-long series. So far, two episodes
have been done in New Mexico; both were
about the Wooley Mammoth and Columbia
Mammoth fossils at Tucumcari NM. NONE of
the episodes so far have focused on radioactive
fossils, which are featured here at Jurassic
Canyon NM.
t
CARNOTITE, this ad's rock, is the most
common type of uranium rock at this location.
A special feature of Carnotite is that it
sometimes contains a very small amount of
RADIUM, which is nearly three million times
more radioactive than uranium. Radium-in-
a uranium rock is more common for rocks
found at Uravan Colorado, 250 miles NW
of Jurassic Canyon. The uranium used in the
atomic device dropped on Hiroshima Japan,
August 1945, came from Uravan Colorado,
and also from the Shinkobwe mine located
at Africa's Belgian Congo.
