Vintage MS Sea Venture Seahorse Dragon Cruise Ship Souvenir Brooch Pin Norway David Anderson Design Pewter Jewelry Original Box 1970s Flagship Pacific Princess The Love Boat TV Show Figural Boat Liner Bermuda Maritime History Memento Sea Travel Memorabilia Transportation Water Ocean This is a great vintage souvenir brooch or pin from the Sea Venture Cruise Ship from the 1970s. It features an intricately detailed ship along with the Seahorse or Sea Dragon Logo that was used for all the marketing for the cruise line. The logo is the same design as the seahorse dragon brooch designed by David Andersen from Norway. I have added a small inset picture of Andersen’s brooch to one of the pictures, so you can see it is the identical image without the ship on it (the Andersen brooch in the photo is not the one for sale). The pin measures approximately 1 inches by 1 inch. According to Wikipedia “The ship began operation in 1971 with Flagship Cruises, under the name Sea Venture. In April 1975, she was sold to P O's newly acquired Princess Cruises along with sister ship Island Venture. The pair was renamed Pacific Princess and Island Princess." Princess Cruises agreed to have their cruise ships featured in the television romantic comedy anthology series "The Love Boat", which debuted in 1976 as a made for TV movie and as regular show in 1977. The ship featured in nearly every episode of the series (which was filmed primarily on sets in a production studio) was Pacific Princess, although other ships also appeared, including Island Princess. The term "Love Boat" was heavily used by Princess Cruises in their marketing, and became synonymous with Pacific Princess. The success of the up-beat television show, which remained on the air until 1987, is largely credited with the increase in popularity of cruise ship travel in North America." It is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The high magnification makes the metal look different than it does when viewed normally, it has a bluish tint in the photos, but it is silver pewter in actual appearance.
