U.S Mint chief at engraver Frank Gasparro designed the coin: his initials appear on the obverse at the truncation of the bust, and the reverse below the eagle's tail. The Anthony Dollar (1979-1981 and 1999) was introduced in honor of Susan B. Anthony, famous suffragist and women's rights advocate.
